ABOUT ELKE DE WITTE

Welcome! I'm Elke De Witte — a true sunshine lover. Passionate about the brain in all its twists and stories, I've taken on various challenges: from earning a PhD on language monitoring during awake brain surgery, to completing a postdoc in San Francisco, and even opening a Belgian office in the US. In short, I'm curious by nature and love moving forward.
Until I became the mother of two sons — and felt my brain start to slow down. I explored why this was happening and wrote a book about it: The Maternal Brain Myth. Today I work as an innovation expert on brain projects and it is my mission to rewrite the narrative around the maternal brain.
I want to help build a society that takes better care of the maternal brain.
PRESS & FEATURED IN
'I had functioning brain cells, until I traded them in for a mom brain. Jokes like this might score likes on social media, but they also shape how we think about motherhood.' Elke De Witte explains why the cliché of the forgetful mom brain doesn't hold up.
Elke De Witte responds: 'The term ‘mommy brain’ is often misused in the media and unfairly linked to forgetfulness — unintentionally reinforcing the idea that mothers are somehow less capable. The so-called ‘brain fog’ deserves attention, but we do mothers a disservice when we blame it solely on biological brain changes.'

'The mother brain is powerful and beautiful – but also vulnerable. That’s why it’s our collective responsibility to take care of it.'
